Crysis Warhead

The original Crysis was definitely a showcase of technological brilliance. Everything from the landscape to the characters' facial features was incredibly detailed and lifelike, but the price was too high for some gamers with older PCs. Crysis Warhead, the official standalone expansion, seeks to cure that as well as some of the other problems with the original.
In Warhead, you play the role of Sergeant Sykes (nicknamed Psycho), one of the members of Raptor Team from the first game. The events in Warhead begin when Nomad (the protagonist from the first game) splits with Psycho, and end shortly before you rejoin him on the aircraft carrier.
Aside from being less hardware-intensive, Warhead has some AI changes to the aliens which make them somewhat less human-like, accentuating the difference between the two main types of enemies. Other additions include a grenade launcher, which was the biggest disappointment, and dual SMGs, which were much more useful. The final PAX weapon is also much better than the TAC cannon in the original, with the key being it doesn’t need a lock on something in order to shoot.
The new game is faster-paced than the original, meaning you lose some of the action/stealth choices of the original in favor of a “blow stuff up” approach. The new vehicles reflect this as well, though there are few changes. Stealth still works, though it is rarely the best option. The levels are also much more open than the original, with multiple paths through them (with one or two exceptions). On the whole, Warhead is easily the best game so far of 2008 (Pre-Far Cry 2) and is definitely worth its $30 asking price.

My Verdict: 9/10

Pros: Good characters, gameplay, stunning graphics
Cons: Story is confusing unless you’ve played Crysis

Bottom line: The best possible way to spend $30

Assassin's Creed

Assassin’s Creed was definitely hyped at launch for its new game mechanics, like the free-running and the open environment. They’re definitely good, as it is incredibly “cool” when you jump across a gap between buildings for the first time. Or when you dive off a building and land safely in a pile of hay. And I loved it when I saved an innocent civilian from torture at the hands of the local guards. But there’s one thing I don’t get with this game: It’s incredibly easy. Once you gain the ability to counterattack, the game loses its challenge. I found myself taking on more than ten enemies, and winning easily. It’s so easy, it even feels like you’re cheating. The final battle is harder, but it’s still not what I would call hard. But there is one thing that saves this game: the visuals. The game world is so believable that I found myself forgetting the flaws and just enjoying the game. The story is good too, with some interesting plot twists that you don’t see coming, in addition to the ones that the story tells if you pay close attention. I found that if I treated the game more as an interactive movie, it all made sense – especially if Altaïr was the Jackie Chan of the Crusades.

My verdict: 8/10

Pros: Open world, good story, good visuals, free-running is cool.

Cons: Way too easy

Bottom line: The game you want if you enjoy being an ethical assassin.

Quad Core vs. Dual Core

One of the most thought after questions of modern time is what I should get, a quad core or a dual core. This guide explains the pros and cons of each, and helps you decide which one is better suited for your needs.

The main factor in deciding which one you want to get is when the next time is you will be getting a new computer. If the time is in about a year, than go with a dual core. This is because as of right now, not many programs are optimized for quad cores. This means that even though you have a quad core, the program will only use 1 or 2 cores, or the other 2 cores will be idle. If you won’t be upgrading your computer for a few years, then it is recommended to get a quad core. In a few years, almost all applications should be able to take advantage of four cores.
Another factor is what you want to be doing with your computer. Do you only browse the web, and play games. Or, do you encode video, and multitask. Most games only take advantage of 2 cores, so again the other 2 will be idle. Web browsing uses so little CPU that there is no point of having a quad core. If you encode or convert video, it is highly recommended you get a quad core. This is because encoding videos use all 4 cores. This means that you will see huge performance gains in computers with a Quad Core.

Hopefully this guide will help clear things up a bit when you are deciding on if you want a Dual Core or a Quad Core. If you have any comments or suggestions, please post them on the comments section.

Nehalem will be called Intel Core i7

Contradictory to many believes, Nehalem will not be called Intel Core 3, instead, it will be called Intel Core i7. However what we don't know, is how Intel came up with i7.

Archos 605 Wifi Review

There aren't that many MP3 players that beat the iPod Touch in terms of features. The Archos 605 is one of the rare ones that has more features than the iPod Touch. That is also its Achilles Heel. Archos is a pretty small company, and so when they invest time and money into features, what falls apart is the build quality (pun not intended).

For example, it has a 4.3" touch screen, wifi, a hard drive, and speakers, and yet it is cheaper than the ipod touch. An 30GB Archos is cheaper than a 8GB iPod Touch. An 80GB Archos is cheaper than the 16GB iPod Touch, and the 160GB (yes 160GB your eyes are not failing you), is cheaper than the 32GB iPod Touch.

All those features means that it is hard for them to work together. The archos runs a Opera Web Browser ($30), which is fully featured, which means flash support. But when you are surfing the web, you are most likely going to crash the PMP once every 5 hours.

Another downside of the Archos 605 is that lots of the features cost extra. The Web Browser ($30), MP2 + VOB + AC3 ($20), MP4 + AAC ($20), Web Radio + Web TV ($20). Archos's explanation is: We can give all those feature, and have the Archos 605 cost $400, or we can give you the basic player for $300, and you can pay for what you want. I agree with archos, because i only need the Web Browser, i do not need any other plugin. Therfore i am saving $70.

My verdict: 7/10

Pros: Lots of features

Cons: Crashes when web browsing. You have to pay extra for some features

Bottom Line: If you want an iPod Touch, but you watch a lot of movies, and need that hard drive space, the Archos is Perfect for you.
